With a background in photography and lighting sets, Meeka and her team at Design Farm have significant experience in designing and installing home and landscape lighting. Landscape lighting can significantly enhance the beauty of your home while providing a sense of comfort, warmth and security in your garden environment.
Landscape lighting design is a fine art and we believe that lighting should be an organic and natural force. It should come from a magical place. Fixtures should not be arbitrarily placed but should come from a mysterious source – as in the light from the moon and the stars.
Low voltage lighting not only creates magic in the garden, but is also a sustainable choice of energy consumption. It consumes approximately one third the energy of traditional high voltage lighting. It provides safety along your night-time path and reveals the architectural beauty of your home. Take a safe stroll through your garden in the evening, not just in the day, thus extending your garden enjoyment. Lighting services we provide include:
- Lighting evaluation and consultation
- Recommendations with a lighting plan/layout
- Installation of lighting fixtures
- Tree lighting
- Home lighting
- Garden lighting
- Water feature lighting
- Pool lighting

Design Farm specializes in designing and installing gardens that provide visual beauty and interest year-round.
Our approach is grounded in the belief that the plant material selected creates the architecture of the outdoor rooms of your home. They create light and shadow, rough and smooth textures and a year round environment that requires little maintenance. Our plantings change seasonally and as they mature, become richer.
We always strive to use native and sustainable plant material that is supported by organic gardening practices. We carefully select our favorite species that we have observed for years as well as new varieties that add a unique quality to each of our garden spaces.
Furthermore, it is our conviction that the garden is not a mere afterthought of the architecture. There is a deep connection and relationship between the two that creates one holistic and artful space.
Garden types that we create include:
- Perennial Gardens
- Water Elements (Streams, Waterfalls, Ponds, Fountains, Weirs)
- Specialty / Theme gardens
- Organic and Sustainable Gardens
- Native Plantings
- Cutting Gardens
- Roof Gardens
- Ornamental Vegetable and Herb gardens
- Estate Grounds Maintenance
Strong sustainable design begins with analyzing the grade of the existing property and creating or working with the land to maximize proper water retention and reduce the excessive need for irrigation.
Grading not only helps channel water to appropriate locations, it creates negative and positive spaces that creates visual interest with the landscape.
Captured water can be used to feed irrigation and water features, thus reducing the cost of water bills while preventing excess runoff into unwanted spaces.
Services we provide include:
- French Drains
- Dry Wells
- Permeable Paving
- Rain Gardens
- Catch Basins
- Channel Drains
- Basement flood reduction
- Retaining walls
- Property Re-grading
We have spent many years designing and installing custom gardens that include many different types of stonework and masonry elements. When completed within the overall context of a well planned master landscape design, the results can be stunning. We have created many unique stone features and handle everything from the conceptual design to stone selection and installation.
Some examples of our stone and masonry projects include:
- Garden paths
- Walls (Retaining and Decorative)
- Thin stone veneer applications
- Outdoor kitchens
- Outdoor fireplaces and fire pits
- Stone edging
Design Farm is an architectural and landscape design firm that also performs the general contracting and construction management of all of our work. We collaborate with our clients to develop master design plans, sketches, obliques and construction details for our projects before we approach the construction, installation, and restoration and/or preservation process.
This collaborative process begins with onsite, face-to-face meetings to assess the planned usage and stylistic preferences of our clients. We then perform research to gather images of the desired elements to validate a creative direction for the project. This is an iterative yet rewarding process for both parties to achieve a unified vision prior to commencing with any physical work.
We then create Master Design Plans that are very detailed and in full-color to illustrate the exact plan for the work to be performed. The beauty of this process is that it provides the homeowner with a Master Plan that can be implemented over any period of time desired and can make large-scale plans more modular and affordable. The beauty of the Master Plan is that the creative direction is always in sight and components implemented over a period of time will still be integral with the original design laid-out in the Master Plan.
Natural, organic methods of soil preparation, planting and preservation are used to ensure ‘green living’. All our plantings are completed with proper soil/compost ratios and pesticides are never used to eradicate problems; natural methods are always employed. The use of ‘natives’ and drought tolerant plants help create a sustainable garden that is in harmony with the environment.
A home or office that is built with green materials and design can ultimately lead to decreased operating costs by increasing the efficiency of energy and water use, thereby reducing the overall impact on the environment.
Sustainable solutions that we offer include:
- Permeable Paving
- Rainwater Capture
- Organic fertilizing
